Derek Fritz
Brass Instructor
DEREK FRITZ is currently a middle school band director in Hudson, Wisconsin. He oversees 6-8th grade lessons, as well as 7th and 8th grade band classes.
Derek attended the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, where he received his degree in Music Education. He studied tuba with Dr. Jerry Young and Dr. Jacob Grewe and currently runs both an in-person and virtual tuba studio. During his time at UWEC, he was the principal tubist in the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2018, Derek has been teaching with Pacific Crest Youth Arts Organization. He is also a low brass specialist, with extensive experience in brass pedagogy specializing in tuba, euphonium, and trombone. Additionally, he works as a marching band clinician and choreographer for high schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota. His work has contributed to over 14 state championships in marching band and indoor drumline.
When he’s not teaching or performing, Derek enjoys spending time with his pet rabbit, Philip, and is an avid rock climber.
