Brass Caption Head, Seth Murphy, was recently promoted to Pacific Crest’s Program Director. This was part of a reorganization as Corps Manager Gabriel Cobas stepped down at the end of December and relocated to New York as the new Director of Amp Up NYC.
Gabe will lead the Amp Up NYC team in transforming music education in New York City. Amp Up NYC is an initiative that is placing Modern Band music programs into 600 New York City Public Schools. Modern Band music programs focus on teaching kids to play the music that they know and love. By focusing on newer genres of music such as rock, reggae, country, pop and hip hop, Modern Band helps get kids engaged in making music quickly and easily.
“I have known Gabe more than 20 years, and consider him a colleague and friend,” explained Executive Director Stuart Pompel. “While I am saddened to see him leave Pacific Crest, I am excited about the remarkable journey ahead of him.”
In addition to his current duties, Seth will be responsible for the entire program, including instruction, design, and membership. Seth has been a brass instructor at Pacific Crest since 2012, and had assumed increasing leadership of the brass program and instructional staff over the years. “I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Seth’s leadership,” said Pompel, “and I know our members will benefit greatly from that leadership.”
