MALIA GOMEZ’S color guard journey began in 2014 at West Ranch High School in Santa Clarita, CA. After capping off her senior year in 14th place in Scholastic A finals at WGI, her passion for color guard only grew from there. Upon graduating, she went on to coaching at schools in the Los Angeles area including West Ranch High School, Saugus High School, and Crescenta Valley High School. Malia also had the pleasure of joining the All-State Hawaiian Marching band for the 2016 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York and the 2019 Tournament of Roses parade in California.
In this time, she started marching DCI in 2018 with the Vanguard Cadets. In 2019, she returned to the Vanguard Cadets, but as the corps was only touring in California, she was welcomed to join Pacific Crest with only 18 days left in the season. After then, she aged out with the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2021. Malia has also marched with Icon Winter Guard in 2020, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Today, Malia works as a color guard technician at Castaic High School and Arcadia High School. Her passion for the activity grows when she sees her students develop the same love and dedication that she felt when she was younger.
Malia resides in Los Angeles, CA and attends Pasadena City College in between coaching, studying film and television. She loves to explore new coffee spots and spend quality time with friends and family.
Malia is excited to return to Pacific Crest as an educator for this season!
